A hand-knotted Kazak wool area rug. This crisply rendered tribal rug features rectilinear bird figures in its medallions, field, and primary border amid a palette of shades of blue, cream, and terracotta. It begins with three octagonal pole medallions, two in blue, one in terracotta, over a cream field. These medallions are notched, each containing a constellation of motifs. The field is populated with birds and other animals; boteh that contain ewers; and stars, among other motifs. A pair of flower and leaf borders frame the primary border. The rug has overcast edges and ends in wool warp fringe that has been knotted. It is unmarked.
