An antique Empire style cherry butler’s desk. The top drawer opens and folds out to form a desktop which contains cubby storage featuring small drawers and has a black leather inset writing surface. The piece also contains three drawers, glass knobs, and hand cut dovetails. The front has twist pilasters, and the desk rests turned feet. A key is included.
Consistent with age and use. Much surface wear and scratches on item, and veneer has few places of chipping and bubbling. Some splits in wood and veneer, notably on top. Many drawer pulls (which are not original to the piece) are loose, and locks have been taken out of the drawers. The desktop comes with key and has lock, which does not work properly. Bottom piece of trim on desktop drawer is loose.
